Click to view: Things you don't see made of wood.

Once in a while I like to make some things of wood that you never see. Have you ever seen a pocket knife made of wood? It features a blade lock in and release. How about an egg made of exotic wood?

I saw an unusual Cedar board and decided to make some small vases out of it. The unusual markings made them come out very nice. This is aeromatic Cedar and it sure makes my shop smell good.

Karen wanted a small carrier for her crafting/sewing. I made one to her specs, but decorated it with a lot of wooden sewing items. Everything is wood and the buttons were made on the lathe. I used Walnut, Yellow hart, Maple and a few other types of wood. She loves it.

I got an idea that could make a beautiful vase that involved making and gluing up pieces of Walnut, Bubinga and Maple in a special way. I liked the way they came out.

This is my first venture into making wooden toys. I made for my grandson Tayler. It is about 16" long and is made of scrap Oak, Cherry, Walnut and Poplar. The doors open, steering wheel turns, dash has gauges, hood lifts to show a wooden engine and the wheels turn. He has as much fun with it as I did.

I didn't care too much for my first effort at the crucifix. I am much more pleased at this one. The cross is pine, Jesus is Basswood. No carving, it was all shaped with a small rotary tool.

I originally made this clock the standard way with a black forest look with leaves and a bird. Karen got the idea to convert into a quilting/sewing room clock with all the items you will see in her room. I did all the wood work and she added her touch to sewing/quilting. I made a big safety pin for the pendulum, scissors at the roof and quite a few other things. She added so many things that you just have to look for them, including things like tiny tape measures on the clock hands, cutting table with a rotary cutter and even a small dog that looks much like her own.

One of my more complex and fun projects was to make a 1930 Model A Ford. I used Web pictures and a book to scale up to size and took it from there. I made an engine and a working rumble seat. It is about 14" long. I purchased and modified the wheels to look more realistic.

Both are out of my imagination and each has a dusk to dawn light. They are about 30" high

I used some exotic woods to make these for family members.
