Click to view: Game boards and pizza board

I made some new boards for an old game. I used walnut with inlaid inserts and made them slightly different, we can't have two of the same thing.

The pizza cutting board was made of some left over pieces and came out to be a beautiful piece. Yes we do cut pizzas on it.

Spalted wood is any wood that is in the decay process. Fungi and bacteria cause it to turn colors and gives it some very unusual markings. If you get it before the process goes too far, it can give you some beautiful pieces.

The first picture shows a couple of blocks or spalted Apple (I think it is apple)

The second picture shows what a piece looks like when turned on the lathe.

The last pictures shows unusual Box Elder red spalted pieces. Sometimes the turnings don't come to nice, because of the wood condition, so I try to work around it by adjusting the piece features.

This year I made some Christmas tree ornaments for the first time. Some are OK, while others came out nice.

The wooden hoop is one that Karen had me make. She wanted one 12" diameter and was unable to find one any where, so I made her one.

The two other contraptions are emboirdery hoop stands. You place them under and between your legs while setting and adjust to your working height. She saw them on the internet and wondered if I could make her one. I made 2, one has more adjustment than the other.

Karen wanted a small quilting rack to make baby quilts on. I came up with one that was built to her specs. I made it of Oak and the connecting poles are threaded and locked with threaded hand knobs. I also included a small tray to keep needles and tools. It also features ratchets and tilting/locking end arms.

My daughter likes sunburst wall displays. I made her two with clocks in them. While you can easily see the hands on one, the other one has other no hands. I made two revolving disks with marks on them. The marks move and tell time.

The cuckco clock was created around an electronic movement purchased from clock kit.

This features a marble release system that lets marbles roll down any one of 6 or 7 trails through all sorts of tricks and jumps. They all finish by going down a hole into the drawer below. It was complicated, required trials and adjustments, but the end result was very nice. I have no idea of the time spent making this one.

I got the plans for this on the web.

Over the years I have turned many things on my lathe, some simple some very complex and all were fun.

My wife likes bears and I tried to make her a few surprises once in a while. My favorite is the baby bear.

I like to show my colors. Both projects were made on the band saw and made of pine. The flag is made of 13 2bys and was cut to look like a flowing flag. Sam just came out of my imagination
